Port Royal 1859 General StoreEvent Details
"Tell our Friends we are on the journey West, arising from the acts of wicked men and our unfortunate fates.."
This was written by Elijah Hicks as he along with his fellow detachment of Cherokee people were encamped at Port Royal in the fall of 1838.
Join Rangers on November 27th at 10:00am for our Day After Thanksgiving Hike to learn about Cherokee Removal and the role Port Royal played as an encampment and resupply point along the northern route of the Trail of Tears. This hour long walk will take visitors along a segment of preserved roadbed of the Trail of Tears that at once carried over 10,000 Cherokees as they were forced westward.
