Buffalo River State Park

PARK WEATHER
  • The protected Buffalo River has been a popular paddling and fishing destination for decades. Buffalo River State Park opens the door to additional miles of the river frontage, including the largest horseshoe bend on the river, allowing even more visitors the opportunity to reconnect with nature.

At least 48 rare plant and animal species have been documented in the area, and with this permanent protection, the state will ensure future generations can experience and explore this wildlife haven.

    Safety and Accessibility

    • Safety

Visitors will need to be aware of their surroundings as flooding and/or high currents could affect those recreating in the area.

    • Amenities

There is no cell service in the area, so visitors should come prepared with maps and other means of communication. Additionally, there are no public facilities at this time.

    • Insects and Wildlife

As you explore the area, be prepared for insects, including ticks, and keep an eye out for wildlife, including snakes. We recommend using insect repellent, wearing appropriate clothing, and giving wildlife plenty of space.

    River Access

The Buffalo River is a popular destination for paddling, fishing, and enjoying Tennessee’s natural beauty. While Buffalo River State Park protects approximately two miles of riverfront, public access from within the park is still being developed. Visitors interested in paddling the river can explore opportunities through local outfitters, with some existing float routes passing alongside the park. As park improvements continue, additional opportunities for river access and shoreline recreation are planned.
