Event Details

Birdwatching is a fun way to explore nature while building observation and science skills. In this introductory program, homeschool students will learn the basics of birding, including how to use binoculars, identify birds by their field marks and sounds, and understand the habitats birds depend on. Through hands-on activities and a short birding walk, participants will practice their new skills while discovering the birds that call Seven Islands State Birding Park home.

This program is recommended for homeschool students ages 6–12. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 10:00 AM. Be prepared to walk 1–2 miles over both paved and unpaved surfaces. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. The program will include a short lesson followed by a guided birding walk and will last approximately 2 hours.

The cost of this program is $6 per participant. Adults are required to attend with children. There is no cost for adult participants.

Please come prepared with good walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and a water bottle. Binoculars are recommended if you have them; a limited number are available to borrow. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
