    Safety and Accessibility

    • Safety

      While exploring Seven Islands State Birding Park, be aware that the French Broad River can have swift currents, posing potential drowning and swift water hazards. Always wear personal flotation devices when near or in the river and check the Douglas Dam release schedule before heading out.  

    • Accessibility

      Seven Islands State Park features paved parking lots and accessible restrooms near the Bluebird Barn. The observation deck over Upland Pond is wheelchair accessible. The park also has stroller-friendly trails, such as the Bobwhite Trail and Island Loop Trail, which are relatively flat and easy to navigate.

      Tennessee State Parks are dedicated to promoting responsible recreation — encouraging visitors to enjoy the parks’ natural beauty while minimizing their own impact.     Seven Islands State Birding Park has extensive native grasslands that provide a habitat for birds and other wildlife. Park Rangers protect and enhance the ecosystem through regular controlled burns.  

  • Nurture Pollinators

    The park has over 130 acres of native pollinator habitat and is working to create two official Monarch Waystation Sites, which would meet the entire life cycle needs of monarch butterflies during the butterflies’ annual migration through North America.
