3pm – Quiet Reflective Nature Hike Join Ranger Joben on this easy 0.4 mile loop of Tom Gray Trail as we quietly enjoy and reflect on our surroundings using a set of journal prompts. Dress for the weather with sturdy footwear and bring water. Meet at camper check-in. 45 - 60 min. [Free!]

4:30pm – Water Cycle Bracelets Join Ranger Joben to learn about the earth’s water cycle and make your own souvenir bracelet. Meet at camper check-in. 30-45 min. [Free!]

7pm – Whoo Lives Here? Meet Ranger Joben at the aviary to learn all about our wildlife ambassadors, Shiloh the barred owl, and Sunshine the Great Horned Owl! 45-60 min. [Free!]

Thursday, July 23rd

3pm – Finger Weaving Meet Ranger Hannah at the Miller Farmstead to learn about the traditional craft of finger weaving. You will have the opportunity to learn about the craft and try it out yourself! 30-45 min. [Free!]

4pm – Paper Quilting Meet Ranger Hannah at the Miller Farmstead to learn about the history of quilting in Appalachia and some of the quilt square designs along the local quilting trail. You will have the opportunity to personalize your own quilt square using colorful paper. 30-45 min. [Free!]

Friday, July 24th

2pm – Fun with Tie Dye Join Rangers Hannah & Joben at camper check-in to have summer fun making your own tie-dye shirt! The park will provide dye and all supplies. 60 min. T-shirts may be purchased in advance at the camp store. [$7+tax T-shirt/or Bring Your Own T-Shirt for $4]

3:30pm – Ride with a Ranger Join Rangers Hannah & Joben at camper check-in to learn the rules of the road! We’ll learn all about bicycle safety, play a game, and take a group ride around the campground. Bring your bike and your helmet! 30 min. [Free!]

Saturday, July 25th

8:30am – Doe River Trout Kites Join Ranger Joben and make your own trout kite while learning about the trout that call the Doe River home. Meet at camper check-in. 60 min. [Free!]

8:30am – Warbler Walk It’s Warbler Season! Join Ranger Hannah to learn about the Golden Winged Warbler. We’ll hike at a leisurely pace through Hampton Creek Cove State Natural Area (HCCSNA), in search of this fascinating world traveler. Dress for the weather with sturdy shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. Meet at the HCCSNA Trailhead. 60 min. [Free!]

12pm – Terrific Turkeys Play a fun game and learn about how turkeys survive in the woods of Roan Mountain! Meet Ranger Joben at camper check-in. 30-45 min. [Free!]

2pm – Creek Crawl Join Ranger Joben to find some Doe River critters and learn about water quality! Bring water shoes and meet at camper check-in. 60 min. [Free!]

3pm – Bombus or BUST! Everyone knows honeybees, but how familiar are you with another common bee, the bumblebee? Join Ranger Hannah at the Miller Farmstead to learn more about these important pollinators. 45 min. [Free!]
