History
Established in 1979, Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park preserves the legacy of one of Tennessee's most influential figures.
The land, previously farmland, was purchased by the state in 1954 and managed by the Association of Cordell Hull and the Historical Commission before becoming a state park. The park's centerpiece is a meticulously preserved one-and-a-half story log cabin, believed to be the birthplace of Cordell Hull in 1871.
Cordell Hull's life was one of remarkable achievements. After serving in the Spanish-American War, he embarked on a distinguished career in law and politics, representing Tennessee in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. His crowning achievement came during his tenure as Secretary of State (1933 through 1948), when he championed the Good Neighbor Policy with Latin America and played a key role in establishing the United Nations. In 1945, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to promote international cooperation and peace.

Bunkum Cave, accessed via the Bunkum Cave Trail, is a geological highlight of the park. The moderate trail leads to the mouth of the cave, which is an impressive 100 feet wide and 50 feet tall. Inside, a stream flows through the cave, and a small waterfall and cascade falls can be seen.
