Join Ranger Patrick at the Park Office before we drive to the Lowry Falls trailhead and hike 2 miles up to one of the gorgeous waterfalls located in the Cherokee National Forest, along the way we will see the cascades that precede the falls and enjoy the sights and sounds of a genuine wilderness area.
This Trail is not too long but is a challenging one, it is an advanced trail that has steep elevation and many roots and rocks along the way. The trail is sometimes wet and has several portions that require a handhold due to being so steep. The views are worth it. Attendees should be physically capable of handling a 2 mile walk up steep mountain grade. In order to get a good view of the falls, attendees should be able to climb up and down a chest high boulder. Please bring any equipment you may need: hiking boots, trekking poles etc., including water and snacks.
Hiwassee Scenic River State Park is a natural wonder, offering visitors an abundance of recreational opportunities. In 1968, the 23-mile section of the Hiwassee Scenic River was designated as the first managed river as part of the Tennessee State Scenic River Program. The river is considered a Class III partially developed river, making it a more intermediate paddling and rafting opportunity. The park is known for its excellent opportunities for rafting, canoeing, kayaking, birding, fishing, and camping, making it the park where visitors return to time and time again.
