Sat, Jul 25, 2026 at 8:00 AM to Sat, Jul 25, 2026 at 9:30 AM

Event Details

We will learn how to research and prepare for going on a day hike. We will also learn how to build an emergency shelter should the need arise while you are hiking.

This program is designed for children aged 6-12 and who want to learn how to have a safe and enjoyable hiking adventure.

This is an interactive experience that will help you:

1. Decide on a trail to hike by determining the terrain, length, location, and weather conditions of the trail.

2. Plan what essential supplies to bring to aid you on the hike

3. Develop skills to build an emergency shelter using natural resources from your environment should weather conditions suddenly change

You will leave this program with more confidence in your hiking abilities and planning.

We will begin the program with an informative presentation on identifying hiking conditions, appropriate gear, and emergency shelters. We will then head out on a guided hike where we will be building emergency shelters.

We recommend that you bring a reusable water bottle. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes.

In the event of inclement weather this program will be canceled. Those registered will be notified by email.
