Event Details

Did you know that there are volunteers roaming the park offering directions, hike suggestions, pointing out interesting things to see, such as a Bald Eagle nest or telling the story of how this land became a State Park, describing what makes Seven Islands State Birding Park designation and much more?

The Visitor Contact Specialists welcome you the Seven Islands.

on October 17 anytime from 9am-11am at the Blue Bird Barn, at the entrance to the Park.

This is a Free Event!

These folks will also discuss safety issues and items you may want to know.

No Backpack is perfect, nor are the contents needed for every hike or general walk.

The Visitor Contact Specialists can help identify items you need and ‘stuff’ that may not be needed.

Surprise, many of the ‘must’ needed may not be on your list.

If you use a Backpack and/or hiking poles, please bring them with you.

The Ten Essentials

According to expert guides suggest that you should always carry these core systems:

· Navigation: Downloaded offline maps on your phone plus a backup paper map and compass.

· Hydration: Carry about half a liter of water per hour of hiking, or one liter per five miles.

· Nutrition: Pack easy-to-eat, high-calorie snacks (200–300 calories per hour).

· First Aid: Band-aids, blister care, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers.

· Illumination: A reliable headlamp with extra batteries, even for daytime hikes.

· Sun Protection: Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a

· wide-brimmed hat or sun hoodie.

· Emergency Shelter: A lightweight space blanket

· or emergency bivy.

· Fire: A mini lighter and waterproof matches.

· Tools: A multi-tool or knife and basic repair tape.

· Extra Clothing: An extra moisture-wicking layer and a waterproof rain jacket.
