Step back in time to explore the rich heritage of mountain ingenuity in "A History of Appalachian Crafts." This program takes a deep dive into the craft traditions of the region, beginning in the era before the Industrial Revolution when self-reliance was a necessity for survival. Participants will discover how isolated mountain communities relied on their own resourcefulness to create things used in everyday life and how the introduction of mass produced goods threatened to completely erase the crafting traditions in Appalachia.
Participants will also learn to make one of 2 crafts during the program: A finger weaved bookmark, or a gods eye decorative craft. Registration cost is $3.00 per participant. Spots are limited, so pre-registration is encouraged.
We will meet for the program at the interpretive center located at the entrance of Harrison Bay.
