Fall is an exciting time to explore the diverse world of butterflies at Seven Islands State Birding Park. Join us to learn how to identify butterflies by their colors, patterns, behaviors, and other characteristics while exploring the fields and trails in search of a variety of species. If monarchs are present, participants will also have the opportunity to learn about their incredible migration and assist with tagging monarchs as part of a larger effort to better understand their journey. While monarch sightings and tagging opportunities cannot be guaranteed, there will be plenty to discover as we explore the butterflies and other pollinators that call the park home.

This program is recommended for all ages. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 1:00 pm. Be prepared to walk 2-3 miles over both paved and unpaved surfaces. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. The program will include a guided walk through butterfly habitat, opportunities to observe and identify butterflies, and a discussion of monarch migration and conservation. The program will last approximately 2 hours.

The cost of this program is $8 per participant. Children under 5 are free with a paying adult.

Please come prepared with good walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle. Bring binoculars or a camera if desired. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
