National Bat Night Under the Full Moon
Seven Islands State Birding Park
2809 Kelly Lane, Kodak, TN 37764 (opens in new tab)Event Details
Celebrate National Bat Night with an unforgettable evening of bats, conservation, and nighttime discovery under the light of the full moon! We'll begin in the Bluebird Barn with a fascinating presentation by local bat rehabilitator Susie Kaplar of Bat Education and Rehabilitation of Grainger County. Susie will introduce participants to the incredible world of bats, share stories from her rehabilitation work, and bring live ambassador bats for an up-close look at these remarkable mammals.
After the presentation, we'll head out on a guided nighttime hike to the bridge in search of wild bats. Using an Echometer bat detector, participants will be able to listen to ultrasonic bat calls and watch as the device helps identify the species flying overhead. Along the way, we'll learn about the important role bats play in our ecosystem and how we can help protect them.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a donation to support Bat Education and Rehabilitation of Grainger County and their work caring for injured and orphaned bats while educating the public about bat conservation.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight with a red-light setting if you have one. This program includes a 2 mile walk in the dark on a paved surface. The full moon provides a beautiful backdrop for this special evening, making it the perfect time to discover the hidden world of Tennessee's nocturnal wildlife.
Pets are not allowed at programs, except service animals.
