Women in the Wilderness is a women-only program designed to inspire confidence and spark interest in outdoor recreation. Whether you’re brand new to the outdoors or looking to build on existing skills, this series brings together women of all backgrounds and experience levels to learn, connect, and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

Join Ranger Codi throughout the year as we explore a variety of outdoor recreation skills.

August Skill: Night Sky Viewing

This month for Women in the Wilderness we will be taking in the night sky! Experience one of the year's most spectacular celestial events under the dark skies of Scott's Gulf Wilderness State Park! Ladies, join Ranger Codi for an evening of stargazing as we watch for the peak of the Perseids Meteor Shower, known for producing dozens of bright meteors each hour.

Throughout the evening, you'll learn what causes meteor showers, discover the stories behind the constellations, and gain tips for identifying planets and other objects in the night sky. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, dress for the weather, and settle in for a relaxing night beneath the stars. Please also bring snacks and water. We will plan to have a campfire for smores.

Whether you're an experienced stargazer or simply looking to enjoy a peaceful evening outdoors with the girls, this program offers a great opportunity to experience the beauty of the night sky and the wonder of the Perseids Meteor Shower.

We will meet at the Virgin Falls Trailhead (2080 Scott's Gulf Road, Sparta, Tennessee 38583) at 8:00PM!

Additional Details

• Open to women ages 10 and up
• All minors must be accompanied by an adult
• If you need to cancel, please contact Ranger Codi so your spot can be offered to someone else

In the event of unsafe weather conditions, Ranger Codi will make her decision to cancel or reschedule the event by August 12th at 8PM.
