America's Greatest Battle: The Meuse-Argonne Offensive Commemoration

This September, Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park transforms into the world of 1918 to honor the brave soldiers who fought in the largest and deadliest battle in American history. Through the shadows of the forest and the stories of the fallen, we invite you to connect with the raw reality of World War I and experience the offensive that would ultimately end the war.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

AEF briefings will be held in the York Barn to describe the phases of the battle, once these briefings are concluded, you will step outside to experience the battle firsthand; talk with the doughboys down in the trenches, see the battle unfold in the forests, and learn of the cost firsthand. Plan to spend the day with us to experience the full story of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.

BRIEFINGS SCHEDULE:

1000 (10am) - Pershing’s Pivot: The Strategic Shift from St. Mihiel to the Meuse-Argonne 

1100 (11am) - The Thunder of the AEF: The Great Bombardment

1300 (1pm)- The Crucial Test: The Brutal Reality of combat in the Argonne Offensive 

1400 (2pm)- The Road to Armistice

• Admission: Free event
• Food Truck will be onsite throughout the day, or nearby York Country Store, or Forbus General Store are local food options.
