Event Details

The Duck River is home to an exceptionally diverse array of aquatic life, including many rare and endangered species. The river also flows through glade and barrens ecosystem complexes that support several globally rare plant species.

Participants will paddle a 5.8-mile stretch of river from Sowell Mill Pike (Leftwich) to Howard Bridge Road. This section offers an easy float on Class I water with a few swift sections and shoals. The route passes by Cheeks Bend, part of the Duck River Complex State Natural Area.

Along the way, we will discuss the ecology of the river and surrounding landscapes while enjoying one of Tennessee’s natural treasures. Depending on water levels, this float may require occasional walking or dragging boats through shoals, so participants should be prepared to get wet. PFDs are required. Bring sunscreen, drinking water, snacks, and be prepared for weather conditions.
