River Explorer!

Meet at the Hiwassee Scenic River Boat Ramp.

Put on those swim trunks and water shoes and let’s have some fun in the river! Together we will try to catch as many little creatures as we can! Minnows, crawdads, bugs, and more! Each species will give us insight into just how clean our river is, the more we catch, the better we can gauge the health of the Hiwassee! All ages are welcome; feel free to bring goggles, but nets and other equipment will be provided.

Hiwassee Scenic River State Park is a natural wonder, offering visitors an abundance of recreational opportunities. In 1968, the 23-mile section of the Hiwassee Scenic River was designated as the first managed river as part of the Tennessee State Scenic River Program. The river is considered a Class III partially developed river, making it a more intermediate paddling and rafting opportunity. The park is known for its excellent opportunities for rafting, canoeing, kayaking, birding, fishing, and camping, making it the park where visitors return to time and time again.
