Event Details

Join Ranger Abby on a hike through Mayo Wix Trail as we discover the different plants that live in Bledsoe Creek State Park! We will look at how plants look different to fit different niches. Whether it's our soft and tiny moss, or our mighty oaks, all native plants have a place in our park!

We will meet at Shelter 2 on Raccoon Creek Lane and depart on our hike from there. This program will involve walking on a paved trail (~0.5 miles), drawing/writing about our plants, and being able to follow instructions. All children welcome, but standards will be aligned with Kindergarten through Third Grade. Parents are required to stay with their children during the hike.

The following state standards will be covered during this program:

• Kindergarten (K.LS1): Use information from observations to identify the differences between plants and animals and how they live and grow. 
• First Grade (1.LS2): Conduct an experiment to show how plants depend on air, water, minerals from soil, and light to grow and thrive.
• First Grade (1.LS2): Obtain and communicate information to classify plants by where they grow (i.e., water, land) and the plant’s physical characteristics.
• First Grade (1.LS2): Develop and use models to show how plants and animals depend on their surroundings and other living things to meet their needs in the places they live. 
• Third Grade (3.LS1): Analyze the internal and external structures that aquatic and land organisms have to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.
