Program Description:

Discover the seven species of woodpeckers that call Seven Islands State Birding Park home! We’ll begin in the Bluebird Barn with a short presentation exploring woodpecker adaptations, unique behaviors, and fascinating facts about these special birds. Then, we’ll head out on the Hickory Ridge Trail, a steep, one-mile loop, to watch and listen for woodpeckers and look for signs of their activity. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just starting out, this program offers a chance to sharpen your observation skills and discover more about the woodpeckers living right here in the park.

This program is recommended for adults and families with older children who enjoy hiking and birding. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 9:00 AM. Be prepared to walk approximately 1 mile over unpaved surfaces, including steep sections. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria.

The cost of this program is $8 per participant. Children under 5 are free with a paying adult.

Please come prepared with good walking shoes and a water bottle. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. We have some that you can borrow if you don't have your own.
