Head of the Crow Hunting
Huntable Lands at Head of the Crow
Hunting is allowed in certain areas of Head of the Crow State Park with a permit.
You can register for a permit online or by visiting the Head of the Crow office. There is no fee. Once you register, you will be emailed your permit. A paper or digital copy of your permit must be kept with you or on your cell phone while hunting. Please be prepared to show it to a Ranger if asked. Permits expire at the end of June every year. A Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) hunting license is also required.
Hunting Regulations
Hunting within Head of the Crow State Park huntable land areas shall be in accordance with the laws and regulations of Tennessee State Parks and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
Statewide seasons and bag limits apply for both big and small game.
Special Conditions
- All statewide seasons open unless otherwise stated below.
- ATVs may be used only to retrieve harvested deer. To obtain access through the Sherwood Forest State Natural Area (SNA) gate, contact the Park Office at 1-615-762-5917.
- No motorized vehicles are allowed at Hawkins Cove SNA.
- Hunt in designated areas only. NO exceptions.
- Each person hunting must have a permit.
- Target practice is prohibited.
- To ensure fairness, no spot can be saved or reserved. Climbing tree stands are allowed but are required to be taken down daily. Any unattended stand will be considered abandoned and confiscated.
- Hunters must follow all Tennessee State Park rules and regulations.

Safety Zones
- NO HUNTING IN SAFETY ZONES! Safety zones are to be 100 yards from any road, trail, or building. Be aware! Some trails overlap into the huntable property. It is the responsibility of every hunter to be aware of their location. Be certain of your target.
- The map shows additional safety zones at Sherwood Forest (Tom Pack Hollow) SNA and Hawkins Cove SNA.
- Harvested game CANNOT be removed via public hiking trails!

Access Points
- Do not cross private property to enter the park without permission from the landowner.
- Do not block roadways.

- Brush Creek Area: Hwy 56 pull-off (35.130904, -85.921567)
- Hawkins Cove SNA: Hwy 41A pull-off (35.176602, -85.951578)

Field Dressing
The field-dressing of game in the parking lot is prohibited. Field-dressing areas should be cleared of any litter after the process.

Alcoholic Beverages
Possession of any alcoholic beverage, narcotic drug, barbiturate, or marijuana while hunting within park property is prohibited. Being under the influence of any of these substances while on park property is also prohibited.

Bag Limits
Deer and turkey shall be checked in at any approved TWRA check-in station, at https://bit.ly/TagBeforeYouDrag, on the TWRA website, or by the TWRA mobile application. Head of the Crow State Park does not have a check-in station.
Statewide bag and possession limits apply.

Baiting
The placement or depositing of any type of food or mineral block to feed and/or attract wildlife is prohibited.

Trapping
Trapping is prohibited.

Camping
Fires of any kind are prohibited, along with camping.

Dogs
- All dogs must remain on a leash
- The training of dogs is strictly prohibited unless authorized through a joint agreement with the Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

Horses
The use of horses is prohibited.

Hunting Near Private Dwellings
It is unlawful to hunt, shoot at, chase, or kill any wild game on public land or waters within 100 yards of a visible dwelling house, whether or not such a dwelling is on public or private lands, without the owner’s permission.

Litter
No litter or sewage may be deposited in the area.

Motorized Vehicles
ATVs may be used only to retrieve harvested deer in some areas; this is Special Use only. To obtain access through the Sherwood Forest SNA gate, contact the Park Office at 1-615-762-5917. No motorized vehicles are allowed at Hawkins Cove SNA.

Natural Features
It is prohibited to intentionally or wantonly destroy, deface, or remove a natural or cultural feature or non-renewable natural resource.

Wildlife
No wildlife may be harassed except those authorized for the hunt, and no animal killed shall be dismembered to the extent that its species, sex, and antlered status (if applicable) cannot be identified before it is checked at a check-in station.

Adjacent Huntable Lands
Other publicly huntable lands border the park, which may have different rules and regulations for hunting. Franklin State Forest is open for hunting during statewide seasons, and all applicable TWRA laws and regulations apply.
