New Gate and Closing Procedures

Long Hunter State Park

For enhanced safety and security, Long Hunter State Park has installed a new electronic gate at the main entrance of the park. Once activated, on November 1st, 2025, the gate will open daily at 5:00 AM and close nightly at 8:00 PM.

Please note:

  • Entry will not be permitted outside of the operational hours listed above. Boat ramp users may still launch if they arrive before 8:00 PM.
  • Guests visiting the park should vacate by closing time at 8:00 PM (The park’s day-use areas close at 8:00 PM).
  • Exiting the park will remain unrestricted—the gate will automatically open for all outbound traffic.

Operational hours at other areas of the park (Bryant’s Grove and Volunteer Trail) will not be affected. These areas will continue to close at 5:00 PM during standard time and 8:00 PM during daylight saving time.

    • Baker’s Grove 

      Step back in time to Baker's Grove, a historic area within Long Hunter State Park. Hike the Volunteer and Day Loop trails, immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the area. This is also the main access point for the backcountry camping area, offering a more secluded and adventurous experience.  

    • Bryant Grove

      Pack a picnic and head to this popular spot for families and friends to gather. Enjoy stunning sunset views over J. Percy Priest Lake from the picnic area. This area is the only swim beach in the park and provides access to the Jones Mill recreation areas, offering additional opportunities for hiking and exploration.

      Long Hunter Cedar Glade Conference Room

      Capacity: 30 guests

      Available to groups is the Cedar Glade Conference Room located at the visitor center. The 580 square foot room can be reserved up to one year in advance and can accommodate up to 30 people arranged auditorium style or with tables and chairs. Catered food can be brought in and bathrooms are available.

    Upgraded trails to reduce erosion, including a mulched walkway on the Volunteer Trail.

    Encouraged native plant growth for a healthy ecosystem. Promote pollination and ecosystem health with a ranger-maintained beehive.
