  • Savage Gulf State Park, encompassing approximately 19,000 acres, is one of Tennessee's most scenic wilderness areas. Carved into the western edge of the Cumberland Plateau, the park boasts sheer sandstone cliffs, rugged canyons, and breathtaking waterfalls. Visitors can explore a vast trail system, discover historic sites, and experience the remote wilderness that makes Savage Gulf State Park a unique destination.

    Safety and Accessibility

    • Safety

      Savage Gulf State Park is committed to visitor safety. Due to the rugged terrain, visitors should exercise caution near high bluffs and waterfalls. Jumping from waterfalls is strictly prohibited. It is recommended to plan ahead, read park signage, and call the Ranger Station for updated information before embarking on any hikes. 

    • Accessibility  

      Savage Gulf State Park is committed to providing accessible experiences for all visitors. The park offers accessible parking and restrooms at the Stone Door Ranger Station. The Laurel Gulf Overlook and observation deck is located at the end of the 0.2-mile paved section of the Stone Door Trail and can be accessed from the North Parking Area.

      Tennessee State Parks are dedicated to promoting responsible recreation — encouraging visitors to enjoy the parks’ natural beauty while minimizing their own impact. By practicing Leave No Trace principles and respecting park rules, visitors can help preserve these precious resources for future generations.

    Main Entrances

    Addresses for the entrances can be found at the bottom of the page in the Contact Information section. Parking lots fill up quickly in the morning, so arrive early during peak seasons.  

      • Savage Gulf camping

      Savage Gulf North

      Access to the trail system and easy access to the Stone Door campground. There is a Ranger Station with a gift shop, public restrooms, and 115 parking spaces.  

      • Waterfall cascading over a rocky ledge into a clear pool below, framed by lush green foliage. The scene conveys tranquility and natural beauty.

      Savage Gulf East

      Access to the trail system and easy access to the Savage Station campground and Savage Falls. There is a Ranger Station with public restrooms, and 110 parking spaces.

      Savage Gulf West

      Access to trail system with access to Greeter Falls and the Blue Hole. There are no amenities, but the entrance has 45 parking spaces.

      Savage Gulf South

      Access to the trail system and access to the Collins West campground and Suter Falls. There are no amenities, but the entrance has 15 parking spaces.

    Picnicking Areas

    Savage Gulf State Park is a perfect haven for those wishing to enjoy a meal outside. Picnic tables are available throughout the park and a pavilion is available for rent. 

    Savage Gulf North
    Savage Gulf North offers six picnic tables that are free to access and one shelter, the Stone Door Shelter. See rental information below.  

    Savage Gulf East
    Savage Gulf East offers five picnic tables that are free to access.  

    Savage Gulf West
    Savage Gulf West offers three picnic tables that are free to access.  

    Stone Door Shelter

    Located at the Stone Door entrance to the Savage Gulf State Natural Area in Beersheba Springs, this rustic shelter is great for picnics and small gatherings.

    The Stone Door Shelter is ADA accessible and contains five picnic tables and a large charcoal grill. It is only steps from the Stone Door Trail, which is an easy one-mile walk to one of the most beautiful overlooks in Southeast Tennessee. This is a great area for birthday parties and family reunions! 

    The Shelter may be reserved online up to one year in advance with a paid reservation fee.  

    There is a $5 cancellation fee for picnic shelter or shelter reservations canceled eight days or more in advance of the reserved date. Reservations canceled seven days or less in advance of the reserved date forfeit all paid fees.
