Renovations at Frozen Head State Park
Frozen Head State Park is undergoing several major renovations. As construction progresses, we will keep you updated on which sections have reopened. We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions about your reservation, please call 1 (888) 867-2757.
Currently Closed:
- All Big Cove Campsites
- All Flat Fork Campsites
- The Visitor Center (but the public restrooms remain open)
- Shelters B & C
- The Rocky Fork Area (including the Ross Gap Trailhead and volleyball courts)
- A number of trails
- The only accessible trail at this time is the Chimney Top Trail behind the Visitor Center. This trail is considered strenuous with significant elevation gain and up to a 14-mile hike.
During this renovation, we encourage campers to check out our nearby parks. Some nearby parks to consider are:
- Norris Dam State Park: Tent and RV sites and cabins, 41 miles away.
- Cove Lake State Park: Tent and RV sites, 42 miles away.
- Cumberland Mountain State Park: Tent and RV sites and cabins, 47 miles away.
- Big Ridge State Park: Tent and RV sites, 50 miles away.

Picnic Areas
Host a picnic among the forest-covered mountains at Frozen Head State Park.
Picnic Shelter C is wheelchair-friendly with parking nearby and a paved path leading to a non-accessible playground. There is a wheelchair-friendly restroom next to the shelter. To find out more and reserve the shelter, click on the Venues Page link below.

Visitor Center Picnic Area
A free picnic area featuring one wheelchair-accessible picnic table is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is located at the Visitor Center. Wheelchair-friendly parking and restrooms are located at the Visitor Center and offer a paved path to the covered picnic area.
Camping at Big Cove Campground
Reserve a rustic campsite to enjoy the nature Frozen Head State Park has to offer.
Camp among the Cumberland Mountains and view native birds or the abundant wildflowers. Site 16 is wheelchair-friendly and should be specifically requested when making a reservation.
Amenities: Parking slip, picnic table, grill, lantern hanger, fire ring, and a centrally located bathhouse with drinking water and sink basins.
Note: Electricity, water hookups, and dump stations are not available at Frozen Head.
Keep in mind that limited numbers of ADA-accessible lodge rooms, cabins, and campsites are available, so it is best to make reservations as far in advance as possible. For those who require ADA-accessible accommodation when staying overnight, it is important to make a specific request when booking a reservation and contact us directly at 1-888-867-2757 to reserve an ADA-accessible accommodation.
