Frozen Head State Park

Frozen Head State Park is undergoing several major renovations. As construction progresses, we will keep you updated on which sections have reopened. We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions about your reservation, please call 1 (888) 867-2757.

Currently Closed:

  • All Big Cove Campsites
  • All Flat Fork Campsites
  • The Visitor Center (but the public restrooms remain open)
  • Shelters B & C
  • The Rocky Fork Area (including the Ross Gap Trailhead and volleyball courts)
  • A number of trails
    • The only accessible trail at this time is the Chimney Top Trail behind the Visitor Center. This trail is considered strenuous with significant elevation gain and up to a 14-mile hike.

During this renovation, we encourage campers to check out our nearby parks. Some nearby parks to consider are:

    Host Your Event at Frozen Head

    Frozen Head has both indoor and outdoor venues including an outdoor amphitheater.  

    Our Event Spaces

      Frozen Head Emory Room

      Average rates: $80–$110
      Capacity: 60 guests

      The Emory Room is a 34-foot by 29-foot room located inside the Visitor Center at Frozen Head State Park.

      Frozen Head Stage Area

      Average rates: $82

      The Frozen Head Stage Area is great for weddings, concerts, and other group functions. This space contains a covered stage surrounded by an open field that is approximately one acre. There are restroom facilities in the Visitor Center across the road for guests’ convenience.

    Pavilions

    Frozen Head State Park has three picnic shelters/pavilions that may be reserved for your next event or gathering. Depending on the shelter, the maximum capacity ranges from 60 to 80 people. The shelters are equipped with picnic tables, a grill and access to restrooms. 

    Full day shelter reservations may be made online or by calling the park.     

    Picnic shelters or pavilions may be reserved online up to one year in advance with a paid reservation fee. There is a $5 cancellation fee for picnic shelter or pavilion reservations cancelled eight days or more in advance of the reserved date. Reservations cancelled seven days or less in advance of the reserved date forfeit all paid fees.

      Frozen Head Shelter A

      Average rates: $66
      Capacity: 80 guests

      Shelter A is located on top of a hill that has stairs leading up to it. Amenities include a grill and picnic tables. Pavilions may be reserved online up to one year in advance with a paid reservation fee. There is a $5 cancellation fee for picnic shelter or pavilion reservations cancelled eight days or more in advance of the reserved date. Reservations cancelled seven days or less in advance of the reserved date forfeit all paid fees.

      Frozen Head Shelter B

      Average rates: $67
      Capacity: 60 guests

      Shelter B is located next to ADA accessible parking. Amenities include a grill and picnic tables. Pavilions may be reserved online up to one year in advance with a paid reservation fee. There is a $5 cancellation fee for picnic shelter or pavilion reservations cancelled eight days or more in advance of the reserved date. Reservations cancelled seven days or less in advance of the reserved date forfeit all paid fees.

      Frozen Head Shelter C

      Capacity: 60 guests

      Shelter C is located right next to parking, a restroom, and a playground. Amenities include a grill and picnic tables. Pavilions may be reserved online up to one year in advance with a paid reservation fee. There is a $5 cancellation fee for picnic shelter or pavilion reservations cancelled eight days or more in advance of the reserved date. Reservations cancelled seven days or less in advance of the reserved date forfeit all paid fees.
