    Safety and Accessibility

    • Safety

      Indian Mountain State Park is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors. While bears encounters are very rare, there is a chance of coming across a variety of wildlife while out in nature. In the event of extreme flooding, the park may close and evacuate the campground to ensure visitor safety. In the event of an emergency, always call 911 before calling the Park Ranger on duty at 1-423-566-5861. 

    • Accessibility

      Indian Mountain State Park strives to make its facilities and programs accessible to all visitors. The park offers accessible campsites, restrooms, and parking areas. The Indian Mountain Lake Trail is a paved one-mile trail along the main lake in the park.

      Tennessee State Parks are dedicated to promoting responsible recreation — encouraging visitors to enjoy the parks’ natural beauty while minimizing their own impact. By practicing Leave No Trace principles and respecting park rules, visitors can help preserve these precious resources for future generations.

    • Indian Mountain Lake 

      The main body of water in the center of the park is a beautiful place to enjoy a boat rental or try your hand at fishing. Those fortunate enough to stay at one of the lakeside campsites may enjoy watching sunset over the lake. The overflow dam is also picturesque when the water is flowing.  

    • Ballard Lake 

      Encompassed by a partially shaded, natural surface trail, Ballard Lake features a strip mine pit that has been turned into a beautiful lake through conservation efforts. Many people also enjoy kayaking, fishing, or observing the park's numerous birds and turtles.  

    • Scenic Hikes 

      With the Indian Mountain Lake Trail and Ballard Lake Trail, you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the park. These trails are excellent for birdwatching or a peaceful walk.

    Pavilions

    Indian Mountain State Park has three pavilions equipped with electricity, water, picnic tables, a grill, and access to restrooms. 

    To place a full-day reservation for one of our pavilions, click the link below or call 1-888-TN-PARKS. Pavilions may be reserved up to one year in advance with a paid reservation fee. 

    Reservations cancelled eight days or more before the reservation date will incur a $5 cancellation fee. Reservations canceled seven days or less before the reservation date will forfeit all paid fees.
