Some Trails Closed

Montgomery Bell State Park

Portions of the Montgomery Bell and Creech Hollow Trails will be closed for visitor safety beginning 3/2/26 due to a timber salvage project as a result of the November storms that brought down thousands of trees. We anticipate reopening the closed portions in May 2026.

    Colorblind Viewfinder

    Tennessee State Parks is a popular destination year-round, but for people with colorblindness, experiencing the full beauty of the parks can be a challenge.

    Montgomery Bell State Park uses color vision deficiency technology so that more travelers and residents alike can experience the beauty of Tennessee and the park's vast lands.  

    Use our Colorblind Viewfinder to check out the views that Lake Acorn, one of three lakes at the park, has to offer and the trees surrounding it. This viewfinder is wheelchair friendly. Parking for the viewfinder is located at the Lodge.

    Adult-Sized Changing Table

    Discover comfort and convenience at Tennessee State Parks with our newly introduced adult-sized changing tables.

    Designed to enhance accessibility, these changing tables cater to the diverse needs of our visitors, ensuring a welcoming environment for individuals of all ages and abilities.   

    Located at the Ball Field, the table at Montgomery Bell State Park utilizes a remote to adjust the height of the table. This table lowers to approximately 12 inches off the ground and reaches a height of 39.5 inches when raised.   

    Picnic Areas

      Church Hollow Shelter

      The Church Hollow Shelter is wheelchair-friendly and available to rent, with accessible restrooms attached and parking nearby. Located just west of this picnic shelter is the Historic Birthplace Shrine of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and replica McAdow House. Both of these historic buildings are wheelchair friendly.

      Golf Course Shelter

      The Golf Course Shelter is one of the smaller shelters we offer. This shelter is easily accessible from Hotel Avenue and is near the golf course. This shelter does not have restrooms or electricity.

      Campground Shelter

      The campground area has a wheelchair-friendly picnic shelter available to reserve. This shelter is located next to a non-accessible playground making it a kid’s favorite. There is a wheelchair-friendly restroom attached to the shelter for your convenience. Enjoy the recent addition of our accessible rubberized asphalt trail made from recycled tires. The campground shelter cannot be reserved from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

    Park Office Picnic Shelter

    The Park Office Picnic Shelter is a great spot to enjoy the shade and the sound of a nearby creek. This shelter is available for free on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parking is located nearby. Wheelchair-friendly restrooms are attached.

    Accessible Facilities

    Lake Woodhaven Spillway and Scenic View

    Enjoy the scenery that Montgomery Bell State Park has to offer in its 3,847 acres by using the accessible sidewalk to the Lake Woodhaven Spillway Overlook. This concrete sidewalk path offers a serene view of Lake Woodhaven and the famous stair-stepped Spillway.  

    Parking for the Spillway Overlook is available to the right of the accessible sidewalk.

    Aviary

    Visit the aviary to see the park’s protected ambassador birds located next to the Visitor Center. Typically found in nature, these protected raptors can be viewed up close with information about their species.  

    Parking is located next to the aviaries. A wheelchair-accessible sidewalk connects the parking lot to a path that allows you to view each bird up close.

    The Restaurant at Montgomery Bell

    Visit our restaurant to enjoy classic dishes like shrimp and grits or a caesar salad. The Restaurant and patio overlook Lake Acorn, creating a relaxing dining experience. 

    Overnight Accommodations

    Keep in mind that limited numbers of ADA-accessible lodge rooms, cabins, and campsites are available, so it is best to make reservations as far in advance as possible. For those who require ADA-accessible accommodation when staying overnight, it is important to make a specific request when booking a reservation and contact us directly at 1-888-867-2757 to reserve an ADA-accessible accommodation. 

    The Lodge at Montgomery Bell

    Surrounded by 3,800 acres of preserved lakes and woods, The Lodge is the perfect place for planning events or booking a stay with complimentary access to the outdoor pool, fitness room, and outdoor patios.

    The Lodge offers multiple room options with large windows, showcasing stunning balcony views and overlooking Lake Acorn.  

    For those who require wheelchair-accessible accommodation when staying overnight at The Lodges at Tennessee State Parks, it is important to make a specific request when booking a reservation. Keep in mind that there are limited number of wheelchair-accessible lodge rooms available, so it is best to make reservations as far in advance as possible.

      Cabins

      Just 40 minutes from downtown Nashville, visitors can find their oasis in a Montgomery Bell State Park cabin. Premium Cabin 158 is wheelchair friendly and should be specifically requested when making a reservation.

      Camping

      Extend your trip to Montgomery Bell and sleep among the trees by staying at the campground. Our RV campground includes electric service and water hookups. RV Campsites 5 and 8 are wheelchair friendly and should be specifically requested when planning your trip.
