    Birding at Ocoee River

    Over 100 species of birds have been observed at the park.

    Birds spotted at Ocoee River State Park range from great blue herons fishing along river rocks to bald eagles to numerous woodland birds. Visitors have also spotted herons, mockingbirds, swallows, buntings, and woodpeckers throughout the park, but there are always more to discover!

    Birding Locations

    There are many locations nearby where birders often successfully spot some of their favorite species.

    • Lake Ocoee (Parksville Lake)

      In the spring and fall, birders will travel from Sugarloaf Mountain Day Use Area to Mac Point Beach. This trail is navigable by car or by foot.

    • Ocoee Whitewater Center: Rhododendron Trail

      In the spring, summer, and fall, birders will travel along the Olympic Course Section of the Ocoee River

    • Do not use electronic sound devices to attract birds during nesting season, May-July.
    • Take extra care when in a nesting area.
    • Always respect the law and the rights of others, violators subject to prosecution.
    • Do not trespass on private property.
    • Avoid pointing your binoculars at other people or their homes.
    • Limit group sizes in areas that are not conducive to large crowds.
