New Gate and Closing Procedures

Long Hunter State Park

For enhanced safety and security, Long Hunter State Park has installed a new electronic gate at the main entrance of the park. Once activated, on November 1st, 2025, the gate will open daily at 5:00 AM and close nightly at 8:00 PM.

Please note:

  • Entry will not be permitted outside of the operational hours listed above. Boat ramp users may still launch if they arrive before 8:00 PM.
  • Guests visiting the park should vacate by closing time at 8:00 PM (The park’s day-use areas close at 8:00 PM).
  • Exiting the park will remain unrestricted—the gate will automatically open for all outbound traffic.

Operational hours at other areas of the park (Bryant’s Grove and Volunteer Trail) will not be affected. These areas will continue to close at 5:00 PM during standard time and 8:00 PM during daylight saving time.

    Boating at Long Hunter

    Long Hunter State Park offers access to J. Percy Priest Lake and Couchville Lake.

    J. Percy Priest Lake 
    This 14,000-acre reservoir borders the park and is one of Middle Tennessee's favorite attractions for fishing, waterskiing, wave runners, pontoons, and paddle sports.  

    Couchville Lake 
    Enjoy Couchville Lake's tranquil 110 acres year-round, which is ideal for paddling. The boat dock is currently closed.

    Open summer weekends through Labor Day.

    Friday, Saturday and Sunday
    10:00 AM - 6:00 PM (last rental at 5:00 PM) 
    Call 1-615-885-2422 to determine days and hours of boat dock operation.  

    Rates 
    Rates are subject to change. A deposit may be required.  

    Paddleboard: $15 hourly  
    Kayak - Single: $15 hourly 
    Kayak - Tandem: $20 hourly 
    Youth Kayak: $13.73 hourly 
    Jon Boat with Motor: $45 1/2 day 

    Life jackets and paddles are included with boat rentals. Life jacket rentals for personal watercraft can be rented for $5.00.

    Boating & Paddling Details

    Seasonal Information - The boat dock is currently closed, but the rentals are available near the closed boat dock. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards are rented during the summer months.  

    Bring Your Own Paddlecraft - Visitors may bring their own paddlecraft to the park for use on Couchville Lake year-round.  

    Rowboats and Electric Motors - Rowboat rentals are available. Visitors may bring their own electric trolling motors for use on the park rowboats.   

    Age Limit - Children aged five and under are not allowed in rented vessels.  

    Powered Boats Not Allowed - Gas motors and personal watercraft are not permitted on Couchville Lake. There is no launch ramp on Couchville Lake for private boats.

    J. Percy Priest Lake

    This 14,000-acre reservoir borders the park and is one of Middle Tennessee's favorite attractions for fishing, waterskiing, wave runners, pontoons, and paddle sports. The park features two public boat launch ramps for access to J. Percy Priest Lake.

    Visitor Center Gift Shop

    The Visitor Center Gift Shop is the perfect place to pick up a map, learn about the park, or find a souvenir. You’ll find an assortment of apparel and keepsakes to remember your trip to the park.
